rain. it will impact your morning commute. >> the storm will bring high winds, heavy rains, potential for flooding especially along the jersey shore and even some snow in some spots. >> so let's turn now to meteorologist, david murphy. he's got that accuweather and matt pelman is in for karen taking a look at traffic. good morning. >> storm tracker 6 live double scan is doing a fabulous job of getting you right on top of where the heaviest rain is and, see it now over south jersey highlighted in yellow. this is where we're really getting a lot of ponding and puddling on roadways and as matt pelman has been pointing out some accidents and some reports of some flooded roads. in philadelphia the heaviest rain which was with us earlier in the overnight hours is now really beginning to clear the area and wilmington is now officially into a lull. as you push out towards lancaster county into notice northern suburbs we're dealing with light freezing rain and there have also been some icing conditions in patches at least up through allentown, back through reading and also into parts of bucks, montgomery and chester counties. that will be a situation that holds until about 7 o'clock
5:02 am
this morning. then we'll see rain overtake this part of the region and eventually in allentown and reading say maybe, 9, 10 o'clock we should see that change over to rain as well. for now a little icing possible in the northern and western suburbs at least in patches and the heaviest rain creating the heaviest ponding and puddling on roadways over along the eastern part of the region mainly in south jersey from trenton down to the shore winter weather advisory in effect early today. expires at 7 o'clock in those counties closest to philadelphia and i-95. the lehigh valley and berks county we probably have to wait until about 10 o'clock until we're comfortable enough to let that go, although i think conditions improve greatly there after about 9:00 and then up in the poconos we have winter storm warnings as we're going to see more of that ice and some snow up in the poconos for a good portion of today's event. wind advisories in effects until 4 o'clock this afternoon. we are looking at heavy winds rolling in off the ocean at 40 to 50 miles per hour in those coastal counties and down the shore we also have minor tidal flooding on tap between nine and 11 o'clock at times of high tide and this also
5:03 am
extends up the delaware bay where it's an advisory in some of those tidal water ways up on the delaware and new jersey side of the upper bay. we also have a flood watch today. no surprise there with the heavy rain that's falling right now in parts of the region. some flashy streams and creeks could flood although the biggest problems are probably over by the shore. as you step outside it's chilly, 38 degrees in philadelphia. still closer to the freezing mark in allentown, reading, lancaster and trenton, those areas where we could still have some icing on roads. a lot milder down south with those temperatures in the 40's. and as we head out the door to catch the school bus it stays on the chilly side today. 38 degrees by 6:00 probably up to about 40 in philadelphia by 8 o'clock. rainy, windy and chilly and as we remind you about all that winter weather stuff i can tell that you we're only getting up to about 44 degrees this afternoon. matt pelman, things do get better rain-wise and i will have that with future tracker 6 showing you how this departs later this morning. >> at least the 40's will feel better than the 20's.

good morning david. get out the drano. we have a clogged drain here along 95 southbound side. penndot is out here working on it by the betsy ross bridge but this clogged drain led to a little lake earlier. vehicle came along little too fast, hit that little lake, lost control, spun out and hit the median wall. they've gotten the vehicle towed away but they're still trying to unclog the drain so just the right lane is squeezing by on 95 southbound, already causing a delay this morning. think about staying local on roads like franklin avenue instead. roosevelt boulevard another single vehicle accident in the inner drive. towards the schuylkill it's just wet. getting by okay with no major incidents but you have to watch the speeds because questionee conditions are slippery even though they're not necessarily slick or icy. do you understand wires in plymouth township along ridge pike at fairfield road as you head towards in order town. along the berks county lancaster county watch for a crash on the pennsylvania

way from philadelphia and you do want to watch out for flooding on the roads when you head out today because it's certainly already out there. then there are those wind gusts and you can see the flags up at the korean war memorial whipping around in the winds. they haven't stopped since we got here. across the way, of course, is the water. the sun isn't up yet so it's difficult to see the water from here, but it's rough. it's just churning. you can just make out the waves crashing on the sand. coastal flooding is expected especially as we hit high tide later on this morning. so to recap for you, we got heavy rain, we got flooding, we got wind. check, check, check. we have it all here in atlantic city so you really want to be careful as you head out the door this morning. leave plenty of extra time because you might need it. again, watch out for the flooding on the roads ways because as the rain gets heavier just going to get worse. we're live in atlantic city, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." >> that was a lot of checks there, katherine and as we check in on some other areas here on mobile6 making also way looks like down the

oddly enough in philadelphia as we go in two dimensionally, philadelphia is seeing an end to the heaviest rain right now as this pin wheels up from the south. some of this stuff to the west might try and wrap in a little bit later on. if it does, it will be rain and nothing more than that but there you see dry now in wilmington and chadds ford, media really seeing the rain wind down and this is fairly moderate rain in philadelphia. roads still wet and the heavier stuff from earlier probably still producing some ponding and puddling but that is improvement. over in south jersey obviously you see a lot of heavier rain highlighted in yellow and this is from cape may all the way up through atlantic city, surf city and back in through a good portion of burlington county so this is where your roads are going to be more flooded, if you will. if i take you back out to that wider view and then dive into the northern suburbs, storm tracker doing an excellent job of showing you right where all the freezing rain is mixing in. that doesn't mean it's a sheet of ice everywhere up here but in patches you may wind up with slippery spots and we've seen a couple accidents up

here. if your in through doylestown most of bucks county back in through the northern half of montgomery county and i was out through the northern and western sections of chester county definitely use extra caution after about 7 o'clock these counties closer to philadelphia will probably start to change over to all rain and by 9 or 10 o'clock this morning i think you're going to see the same they know up in allentown. until then, however some slippery spots up north. as we take a look outside we have obviously cloudy skies, wet conditions. things getting a little bit better in philadelphia as i just showed you but you still want to be careful of ponding and puddling left over from the heavier stuff. 38 degrees is your current temperature winds out of the northeast at 14. winds will be another part of the story. more on that in a moment. there you see the view on satellite and radar. that dry air starting to come up into philadelphia although some of the stuff back here might want to wrap through later in the morning and off and on we are allowing for some additional precipitation straight up until about lunchtime. now, future tracker 6 wants to move all of that frozen stuff up pretty quickly so that by 9

o'clock even the poconos are starting to see more of a mix. we're going to allow for some of that icy stuff to remain in the lehigh valley and berks county up until maybe about 9 or 10 o'clock but then after that pretty quickly the model really wants to dry us out and we see just wraparound showers for the rest of the afternoon. there's the 4 o'clock view. later on tonight it's possible that as cooler air wraps in we start to get a couple additional showers or maybe even a snow shower pass through. that would be later tonight into early tomorrow morning. for today, well, rain in the morning, drying in the afternoon for the most part. 40 degrees by 8 o'clock and then 42 by 11:00. 2 o'clock is your high, 44 degrees. we'll still be on or about that by 5 o'clock. and a couple of issues today. the first is that heavy rain. looks like most of us are going to wind up with 1 to 2 inches by the time the tabulations come in. some 3-inch areas and gusty winds and coastal flooding as parter of the package. wind gusts up to about 50 down the shore and 40 in the i-95 corridor so hold onto your hats. your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast, we're going

for a high of 44 today, heavy rain in the morning. windy maybe a little damp in the afternoon. and then tomorrow windy. we're posting the possibility of snow showers but these will be very light if they happen and mainly in the morning i think. but some of you could wind up with a coating on some grassy surfaces by the morning. 43 is the high there. on thursday mostly cloudy and drying out, 42 degrees, maybe a flurry. 44 on friday and then we're back up into the upper 40's very likely by saturday and sunday and it looks dry for the eagles sunday night. >> that's good. thank you david. it's 5:13 and cameras that catch a thief who was helping herself to christmas decorations at a cemetery up north. >> the case of the new jersey college student who is suing her parents for tuition money goes for a judge. we have a follow-up later. matt. >> things are starting to look a little less soggy here in chadds ford on 202 at route 1 at baltimore pike. that's progress. we'll see what kind of progress we're making on that flooding location along 95 on this tuesday morning.
